BACKGROUND
Bethany Housing Ministries (BHM) began as an outreach ministry of Bethany
Christian Reformed Church with one house available to help a family in
need. In 1992 it was organized as a separate 501(c)(3) with an independent
board up of people from a variety of churches interested in ministry to
the homeless. Over the years, BHM has acquired additional properties and
renovated them for transitional housing. BHM became a Community Housing
Development Organization in the City of Muskegon. In 2005, we have four
homes and three apartment houses.
In addition to our properties, we have developed a
case management program, recruited mentors and developed partnerships
with several neighborhood churches. Support programs currently include,
faith exploration, understanding emotions, parenting, budgeting and through
partner churches bible study and other faith-based support programs. Bethany
Christian Reformed Church continues to donate office and program space.
BHM became part of the Continuum of Care for Muskegon County and is a
member of the Community Coordinating Council. We have been awarded Emergency
Shelter Grants from MSHDA.
We now can serve 16 families and currently have
35 adults and 21 children in our program. Bethany Housing Ministries,
Inc. is the only transitional housing program that can serve whole families
in Muskegon County.
